Did you know?
Back in 1980 Dan Pohl led the PGA tour in driving distance with a 274 yard average. In 1991 John Daly led with a 288 yard average. It was not until 1997 when the 300 yard mark was eclipsed by John Daly with a 302 yard average. Last year Bubba Watson led with 315 yards and the tour average was 284. A 275 yard drive, which would have led the tour in 1980 was good for 182nd in driving distance in 2008. Improvements in clubs, balls and course conditions have made a big difference.
